While European SL buyers had access to a wide array of engine, transmission, and option configurations, Mercedes-Benz decreed that from 1972 forward (until 1990), all SLs destined for North America would carry V-8 engines coupled with automatic transmissions. Reflecting the preferences of the upscale North American SL buyer, US cars were delivered with a high level of equipment and very few options. Clean, aggressive good looks give the 380SL its appeal, accentuated in this example with the original silver-blue paint with grey leather interior colour scheme. The original blue soft top on this Southern California car is in excellent condition. Chrome and glass are all excellent as are the chrome alloy wheels, shod with good tires. The car is offered in mechanically good condition, showing an original 111,843 miles. The bullet-proof 3.8 litre V8, feels strong and far more muscular than the power figures suggest. Brakes, suspension and electrical work well. AC is cold, and the car features the original Becker Grand Prix radio/cassette. The interior shows exceptionally well on this modern classic. The dash has one small crack, but seat surfaces, panels and carpet are all in very good condition.. Interior improvements for the 380SL included lovely burlwood accents and improved lateral seatback support. This fine example from the heyday of Mercedes production is a great opportunity to drive a super-stylish classic car, with a modern feel from a by-gone era when Mercedes would truly hand-build their cars.
