Launched at the Geneva Salon in March 1980, the luxurious 380SL convertible and the 380SLC coupe supplanted the outgoing 350 models and were produced alongside outwardly similar 280 and 500 equivalents. The running gear followed Mercedes-Benz’s established pattern, comprising all-independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes, while a new four-speed automatic transmission was standard equipment. Top speed was in excess of 130mph, with 60mph coming up in a little under 9 seconds. Although the 380SLC version was only built for the 1980 and 1981 seasons, during which time fewer than 4000 were made, the SL convertible remained a fixture of the Mercedes-Benz range until 1985. Finished in silver with blue cloth upholstery and equipped with factory hard and soft tops, this 1982 380SL would appear to be in good condition in most respects, the specification including ABS, power steering, and immobiliser. Always garaged in the previous ownership and in covered storage since, we understand that the electric window regulator to the driver’s door needs replacing. The car is offered with a Swansea V5 and current MoT certificate.
