Non seulement, le dessin dû à Ferdinand " Butzi " Porsche séduit immédiatement, mais elle apporte un " souffle " dont ne disposait pas sa devancière, la 356, en profitant du tout nouveau 6 cylindres à plat refroidi par air. 2 litres et 130 ch lors de la mise en production en 1964, puis 160 ch sur la 911 S deux ans plus tard, puis 2,2 l et 180 ch en 1969 : l'escalade sera dès lors ininterrompue. L'alimentation à injection vient remplacer les carburateurs Weber, et on passe à 2,4 l, 190 ch et 240 km/h à partir de 1972. En outre la 2,4 l bénéficie d'une nouvelle boîte de vitesses héritée du modèle de compétition 908, mais aussi de nombreuses améliorations, tant sur le plan esthétique que mécanique. Ce coupé 911 2,4 S a été livré en Italie en 1973 ; il s'agit donc d'un des derniers 2,4L et n'a eu que trois propriétaires. Il a fait l'objet d'une restauration en profondeur menée en 2001 par l'établissement Retromobile, entreprise renommée installée à Landriano en Lombardie. On dispose à ce sujet d'un dossier de photos complet et de factures pour un montant qui excède 100 000 euros. Toutes les pièces remplacées proviennent de chez Porsche et l'auto se trouve dans un état concours. La caisse n'a jamais été accidentée, ne présente pas la moindre trace de corrosion et la carrosserie vient d'être polie. Le réservoir d'essence est en plastique. Proposée dans une belle et rare livrée jaune " Hell Gelb ", une des couleurs les plus rares sur ce modèle, la voiture dispose d'options particulièrement appréciables, au nombre desquelles on citera la sellerie en cuir, mais aussi la radio d'époque ou encore les vitres teintées " Catacolor ". Les jantes Fuchs en aluminium sont neuves, et sont montées avec des pneus neufs Michelin conformes à la référence d'époque, pour un montant de 3.000 €.
