Beschreibung:

Robert Falcon Scott (1868-1912) A copper printing plate being a ruled and shaded frame with reversed lettering 'The British Antarctic Expedition 1910', [1910], 8.3 x 12cm. Provenance : Robert Falcon Scott (1868-1912); by descent. A fine memento recalling the enormous amount of planning and work that went into the organisation of the expedition. A formal announcement was made on 13 September 1909 in which Scott outlined the aims of the expedition: 'The main object of the expedition is to reach the South Pole and to secure for The British Empire the honour of this achievement.' The Terra Nova eventually sailed from London Docks on 1 June 1910. The plate appears to be unused, and may have been an early rejected design: most of the expedition printed material bears the B.A.E./Penguin logo.
