ROBERT FALCON SCOTT (1868-1912) Hand coloured photograph of Captain Scott and printed leaf 'In Memory of Robert Falcon Scott Captain Royal Navy C.V.O. Born June 6th, 1868 Died 29th March, 1912. Commander and Leader of the British Expedition which reached the South Pole. He Died with his Companions on the Return Journey and Lies With Them in the Everlasting Snows. This Memento of their Commander is presented to each member of the Crew by The Scott Antarctic Committee of 1910'. Original leather folder (231 x 175mm), lettered in gilt to upper cover with device depicting a penguin standing on top of globe bordered by the inscription: 'British Antarctic Expedition Terra Nova R.Y.S.'. Provenance : P.O. Patrick Keohane, and thence by descent to the present owner. EXTREMELY RARE; only one similar example can be traced in an institution (State Library of New South Wales).
