Light wear to bindings, some minor toning and spotting, generally a clean set. With the bookplate of Digby H. R. Wingfield. Each of the engravings corresponds to one of the tales in the book. The plates were drawn by Binet after suggestions by Restif, and it is claimed that many are authentic portraits of contemporary figures, including Grimod de la Reynière.
