GEORGES ROCHEGROSSE (1859-1938) GAUTIER, Théophile, La Chaîne d'Or . Paris: A. Ferroud, 1896, 8° (272 x 182mm.) handcoloured stipple engravings, 1896, on A. Ferroud wove paper, title, text, list of plates, justification and set of sixteen handcoloured and sixteen black and white prints, an unnumbered copy from the total edition of 200, in good condition, bound in contemporary light brown morocco gilt, the upper cover with a semi-naturalistic representation in variously coloured morocco inlays of a peacock in a panelled outdoor setting, before an altar garlanded with flowers with a burning offering, the smoke rising into a sky with doves circling; the lower cover with elaborate stylized foliage in gilt over brown and green inlays, with centrally placed pink-morocco flower-heads with roosting white doves; flat-backed spine with variously coloured inlays, lettered and tooled in gilt; light brown watered silk doublures; brown morocco doublures and narrow outer border enclosing a repeat pattern of various small-tools and stylized flowers with light brown and dark blue inlaid blooms; original wrappers bound-in; g.e.; slip-case by De Samblancx-Weckesser.
