Part I: 17 engraved plates on 15 leaves by Bartolozzi and Pastorini, all tinted reproductions of drawings by Leonardo. Part II: engraved dedication and 49 engraved plates on 43 leaves by Bartolozzi, F.C. Lewis, G. Lewis, P.W. Tomkins and others, all tinted reproductions of drawings by the Caracci, Claude Lorraine, Raphael, N. Poussin, Canaletti, and other masters. (Some light spotting and browning of margins.) Contemporary russia by Voll, Mannheim, with his ticket, wide gilt borders, flat gilt spine and turn-ins, gilt edges (spine a little worn at foot). FINE PLATES using various techniques and different tints, including 10 after Claude Lorraine, engraved by F.C. Lewis and Tomkins. Chamberlaine's Imitations of Original Designs by Leonardo da Vinci ... in His Majesty's Collection (1796) and Engravings From The Original Designs of Annibale, Agostino, And Ludovico Caracci, in His Majesty's Collection (1797) were originally published in parts. The 1812 reissue kept the original 1796 and 1797 title-pages as part titles but contained an additional and variable number of plates. The total of 66 plates in this copy agrees with the plate list; some copies have up to 7 'supplementary plates' (anatomical studies, all with publication lines dated 1795 or 1796), making a possible total of 73 plates on 65 leaves. Brunet I, 1761; Lowndes II, p. 405 (calling for 70 plates); R. Weigel, Die Werke der Maler in ihren Handzeichnungen (Leipzig 1865), pp. 52-53 no. 40 (calling for 73 plates).
