(Browned, many leaves skilfully restored, a few holed with slight loss.) Modern light brown mottled calf gilt, spine with red morocco lettering-piece, slip-case, by Antolin Palomino. Second edition. POSSIBLY THE FIRST BOOK PRINTED IN SAMPALOC, AND A RARE EXAMPLE OF SPANISH COLONIAL PRINTING. P. Huerta claimed that a press was established at Sampaloc in 1692, but it is most likely that he conflated the Franciscan press operating that year, probably at Manila, and the press at the Franciscan convent at Sampaloc, which is first named in 1736 in the present edition. Its printer was probably Fr. Juan del Sotilla, who signed an edition in 1738, and like many early Philippine imprints, it was printed on rice paper. The Franciscans, both at Manila and Sampaloc, were instrumental in providing early printed books on and in the local dialect, including Tagalog and Bicol as well as Pampangan.
