Cette matière nouvelle pour l'époque présentait l'avantage de sa légèreté et de sa parfaite adaptation à de petits volumes de production. Ashley Laminates a été fondée par Keith Waddington et Peter Pallandine en 1955. Quatre modèles sortirent de leur atelier jusqu'en 1962. Le premier était un roadster dénommé 750 destiné à habiller des châssis Austin Seven d'avant-guerre équipés d'un moteur de 747 cm3. Vint ensuite la Racer Sports, produite pendant quelques mois à partir de 1956, jusqu'au départ de Pallandine. Elle devint alors la Falcon Mark II. Conçue essentiellement pour un usage compétition, elle pouvait être accouplée à un châssis Elva. Née en 1958, la 1172 était disponible sur des bases Ford (Anglia, Popular, Prefect) et vendue sous forme de cabriolet avec hard top en option, puis ultérieurement sous la forme d'un coupé, deux et quatre places selon le châssis retenu. Ces voitures pouvaient recevoir le moteur Ford 1172 cm3, mais également celui de la MGA ou celui de la «A series «de la BMC. Notre exemplaire a bénéficié d'une restauration totale il y a trois ans après avoir été acheté non roulante en 2010 par son actuel propriétaire. Grâce à un document en notre possession son précédent propriétaire l'aurait détenu depuis les années 50! La voiture est toujours équipée d'un moteur Ford Aquaplane Superhead 1172 cm3 et d'une boîte 3 vitesses Ford, tous deux conformes à l'origine. Elle présente un excellent état général et fonctionne parfaitement. Voiture rare et amusante à conduire, elle est une alternative crédible aux barquettes Elva, Lotus et Ginetta de la même époque tout en étant plus abordable. Like Ginetta, TVR and others, Ashley was one of those small British manufacturers who made a name for themselves in the 1950s building sports car bodies in fibreglass. A new material at the time, it had the advantage of being light in weight and ideally suited to lowvolume production. Ashley Laminates was founded by Keith Waddington and Peter Pallandine in 1955. Four models emerged from their workshops from then until 1962. The first, the 750, was a roadster body designed for pre-war Austin Seven chassis equipped with a 747cc engine. Next came the Racer Sports, produced for a few months from 1956 until Pallandine left the company. This then became the Falcon Mark II. Designed essentially for motorsport, it could be mated to an Elva chassis. The 1172, which arrived in 1958, was available based on various Ford models (Anglia, Popular and Prefect) and was sold as a convertible with an optional hardtop, and later as a coupé, with either two or four seats, depending on the chassis chosen. These cars could be fitted with the 1172cc Ford engine or the MGA or ‘A-Series' engines produced by BMC. The car which we are offering for sale underwent a complete restoration three years ago, after its current owner bought it in 2010 as a nonrunner. According to the history file in our possession, one of the documents mentions that its previous keeper had owned it since the 1950s! The car still has its 1172cc Ford Aquaplane Superhead engine and a three-speed Ford gearbox, both matching the original specification. It is in excellent overall condition and drives perfectly. A rare car, which is fun to drive, it is a credible alternative to the sports racing cars produced by Elva, Lotus and Ginetta in the same period, and
