Compiled from the Works of WOLLASTON, FLAMSTED, DE LA CAILLE, HEVELIUS, MAYER, BRADLEY, HERSHEL, MASKELYNE The Transactions of the ASTROOMICAL SOCIETY of LONDON &c.&c. London. Sold by C. SMITH & SON, 172, Strand A 12-inch (30.5cm.) diameter celestial library globe made up of two sets of twelve delicately hand-coloured engraved gores laid to the ecliptic poles, the axis through the celestial poles, the equatorial graduated in degrees, hours and minutes, the colures graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the houses of the Zodiac, the constellations depicted by mythical beasts and figures and scientific instruments with names in Latin, the stars to nine orders of magnitude with nebulae, a note beneath the cartouche providing a key to their labelling by Greek characters, astronomers' initials or underlined ( some rubbing, more extensive around South Pole, small dent at North Pole ) with stamped brass meridian circle and hour dial, the papered horizon graduated in degrees of amplitude and azimuth and showing compass directions, days of the month and of the houses of the Zodiac ( some rubbing ) with four mahogany quadrant supports to baluster-turned central pillar with three inswept legs -- 33in.
