SMITH, [?]Charles PHILIP & Son, George, London SMITH'S CELESTIAL GLOBE Containing all the Principal Stars Compiled from the works of the most CELEBRATED ASTRONOMERS LONDON: G. PHILIP & SON L T D. 32, Fleet Street, E.C. A 16-inch (40.6cm.) diameter celestial globe made up of twelve coloured printed paper gores laid to the ecliptic poles, the equatorial graduated in degrees, hours and minutes, the equinoctial and solstitial colures graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the houses of the Zodiac, a chart showing the stars to nine orders of magnitude, also Duplexes, Clusters and Nebulae, with a note beneath reading The Stars with Greek Letters affixed to them are from the British Catalogue The Letters lC. from de la Caille H. Hevelius M.Mayer and CH. Caroline Herschel , the Zodiacal constellations depicted by their traditional figures in yellow, the other constellations represented by a dotted boundary, the Milky Way delicately shaded a pale blue ( small areas of staining and loss to varnish, small crack at southern celestial pole ) the axis through the celestial poles with stamped brass hour dial and meridian circle, the oak horizon with applied hand-coloured printed paper circle showing degrees in two directions, wind directions, days of the month and days of the houses of the Zodiac with pictures, names and symbols ( some scratches and discolouration ), raised on four baluster turned oak legs united by turned cross stretchers -- 25in.
