Sir Francis Cyril Rose, Bt. (British, 1909-1979) Surreal desert landscape - a design for a mural signed lower right "Francis Rose" watercolour on paper, rolled and unframed h:58 w:78 cm Francis Rose lived in Paris between 1929 and 1936, where he trained under Francis Picabia and José Maria Sert. Francis Rose began his career as a set painter for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. He occasionally collaborated in his work with another English painter, and his sometime lover, Christopher Wood In the 1930s he travelled with his future wife, Dorothy Carrington, in France, Italy, and North Africa. Some of his paintings today form part of the Yale University Art Gallery (Stein-Toklas collection) and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Unframed and rolled. Tear on the left-hand corner and a tear on the right-hand corner. Scuffed edges. Corners are a bit bent. Squared up for a mural
