Prophet (Schiefler/Mosel 110), 1912 Woodcut printed on stiff wove paper, signed in pencil and indistinctly titled in lower left margin, from the edition of circa 25 impressions, with full margins (deckle on all four edges), in good condition aside from a few surface scuffs, foxing on verso, some creases in the margins, framed. Provenance: Hans Gerson (1881-1931); by descent to present owners. Hans, with his brother Oskar (1886-1967), were partners in the Hamburg architectural firm Gerson and Gerson formed in 1907. Their buildings in Hamburg are today considered architectural landmarks. They also collected Expressionist works of art by such artists as Franz Marc and Emil Nolde Prophet has been in the Gerson family collection since it was acquired around 1915. 12 1/2 x 8 3/4 in. sheet 15 5/8 x 13 in.
