Lot of 25, consisting of eighteen sixth plates and seven ninth plates. Most housed in full or half pressed paper cases, with three under mat and glass only and one bare plate. A ninth plate of a young man with prominent cheekbones is housed in a geometric oval thermoplastic case, manufactured by A.P. Critchlow, while another ninth plate of a pleasant looking man with a large bow-tie is housed in a leather flap case (B 5-21). A sixth plate portrait of a long-faced man in a patterned waistcoat is housed in a book-form half case, the back of which is covered in velvet. Pencil on the inside of the case identifies the sitter as John D. Tracy, who was twenty-one years old on July 4, 1855, the date on which he sat for the portrait. Another sixth plate portrait of an older man with pale, piercing eyes bears an inscription identifying the sitter as the "father of Walter Bogart, who was Henry Flick's Great Grandfather [sic]." Provenance:Charles A. and Frances Swedlund Collection of Early Photography Condition: Most have been resealed by the collector within the last twenty years.
