Lot of 33 images of men, women, and children, various ages, most housed in partial or full cases, including the following: 4 quarter plate daguerreotypes, including a portrait of a young woman identified on lining of case and accompanying paper note as Sarah Belcher Clarke / mother of / Samuel Belcher Clarke. Ancestry.com lists a "Sarah Clarke Belcher" (1822-1892), who was buried in Chicopee, Massachusetts. Samuel Belcher Clarke was a lawyer and former law partner to Elihu Root, who served as Theodore Roosevelt's Secretary of State. Samuel was a graduate of Harvard College (1874) and Harvard Law School (1876). Plus 23 sixth plate daguerreotypes, with the following highlights: portrait of a young gentleman with a dimple chin, the mat stamped R.N. Keely / 332 N. 2d St. / Philada.; portrait of a gentleman, mat stamped J. Hardy Lawrence, Massachusetts; portrait of an aged couple, with paper label atop mat that reads Gage, Artist, St. Johnsbury, Vt.; touching portrait of a young boy leaning his head against a young girl's shoulder, presumably his sister, the girl holding a small bouquet of flowers in her hand; and a family portrait of a young father and mother with their child, dressed in a white frock with a flower pinned near the collar. 4 ninth plate daguerreotypes, including: an oval daguerreotype of a young woman misidentified by accompanying paper note as Jenny Lind, ca 1850, housed in blue velvet case; a portrait of a young man wearing a hat, the velvet lining of the case marked C.V. Allen / Daguerreotypist / 258 1/2 Washington St., Boston, Massachusetts; a vignetted portrait of a young woman, the mat stamped Heywood & Heard, Boston, Massachusetts; and a portrait of an aged gentleman, mat stamped Holmes / 289 Broadway, New York, New York. 1.25 x 1.5 in. daguerreotype of a young, bearded gentleman. Half plate ambrotype of a young, well-dressed boy, with some condition issues. No case included. Condition: Scattered wear to images and cases.
