Four leaves from illuminated manuscripts, on vellum [fifteenth and early sixteenth century] four leaves, comprising: (a) leaf from a Dominican Processional, 164mm. by 110mm., with a three-quarter page miniature (78mm. high) of the Nativity, above 2 lines of text with music on a 4-line stave, within densely packed borders of scrolling blue vines entwined around burnished gold pillars forming a text frame on 3 sides, a coat-of-arms in a wreath in the bas-de-page: or with three crescents or on a bendlet sable, northern France (probably Poissy), early sixteenth century; (b) leaf from a Book of Hours, 162mm. by 105mm., with a three-quarter page miniature of Job in the dungheap (105mm. high), above 3 lines of text and with a border on three sides of acanthus-leaves and other foliage heightened with liquid gold, a coat of arms in the bas-de-page: azure with the initials 'M' and 'P' surmounted by a cross or, supported by two weasels, France, c.1460; (c) full-page miniature of David kneeling in prayer before a gothic building, within a rich border of gold and blue panels enclosing flowers, fruit and six dull-gold birds, entire leaf 170mm. by 115mm., Bruges, c.1490; (d) leaf from a Book of Hours, 165mm. by 112mm., with a border panel on front and back, enclosing wooded scenes with a wolf peeping out from behind a rock, and two white birds bathing in a river, 19 lines with initials in liquid gold on blue or brown grounds, northern France, c.1480; Christ child in item (a) somewhat rubbed, other two miniatures cut to edge of borders, else excellent, all in card mounts
