A COLLECTION OF EIGHT LEAVES from ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPTS ON VELLUM. [Italy and France, 14th to 15th centuries] An attractive selection of illuminated leaves, comprising: 1) a leaf from a choirbook Antiphonal, with a large initial K opening a passage from the Kyrie, [Tuscany, first quarter 14th century], 360 x 275mm (leaf), 87 x 75mm (initial), initial in liquid and burnished gold, pinky-mauve, blue, green and orange with frondy acanthus, seven lines of text written in black ink in a gothic bookhand between seven lines of music of square notation on a four-line red stave, on the recto , seven lines of music and text, with foliate penwork initials in red and blue (upper and outer edge slightly cropped, repaired incisions around three sides of initial, tear extending from paper flaw to lower margin, touching text, a few small pigment losses); 2) 125 x 93mm. Leaf from a Psalter, [north-eastern France, c.1300], containing Psalm CXXII and most of Psalm CXXIII, 15 lines, 2 three-line initials of burnished gold on blue or pale-pink with white penwork decoration, with extensions the height of the text, one-line initials of burnished gold or blue, with blue or red flourishing (light mount mark to outer margin on verso, tape to recto margin); 3) 165 x 120mm. Leaf from a Book of Hours, [Paris, first third 15th century], 16 lines, one-line initials and line-endings of burnished gold on blue and pink with white penwork decoration, panel borders of burnished gold trefoil sprays on black penwork tendrils (adhesive marks to one margin); 4) 172 x 123mm. 2 leaves from a Book of Hours, [northern France, mid-15th century], one from the Litany, the other from vespers, Hours of the Virgin, 16 lines, one- and two-line initials of burnished gold on blue and pink with white penwork decoration, similar line-endings (adhesive marks to upper margin); 5) 172 x 116mm. Leaf from a Book of Hours, [France, second half 15th century], from sext, Hours of the Virgin, 17 lines, rubrics in red, one large initial and 2 two-line initials of burnished gold, the recto with foliate panel borders (slightly worn); 6) 2 leaves from a 15th-century Book of Hours, with highly decorative and skilfully executed borders added in the 19th century, with bird, butterfly and fantastic creature, laid down.
