(Courbet) Gustave Courbet autograph letter signed "G. Courbet" to "Monsieur le directeur de l'exposition d'Anvers", dated "21 Juillet 1870", pen and ink, 1 leaf, recto only. Courbet writes about sending in his painting "la courtisane" to an Antwerp exhibition in 1870 (Tentoonstelling voor Schoone kunsten): "Je vous envoie le tableau la courtisane, appartenant a M. Vandemberghe de Bruxelles (...)". He then gives his personal details, such as his birth data and his Parisian address. The painting was shown in the exhibition under the title "La Courtisane". It was later acquired via Durand-Ruel by the American collectors H.O. Havemeyer and his wife and is now part of the collection of Metropolitan Museum in New York under the name Woman With a Parrot.
