Lot of 9 CDVs including: CDV featuring Brigadier General Horatio Van Cleve, signed "H[?] Van Cleve / Brig Gen Vols" on mount and credited to Ball and Thomas, Cincinnati, OH on verso. Due to his education at the United States Military Academy and nearly five year tenure as a 2nd lieutenant of infantry, Van Cleve was commissioned Colonel of the 2nd Minnesota Volunteer Infantry at the outset of the Civil War. His valiant service under Major General George H. Thomas at Mill Springs won him a promotion to brigadier general of volunteers in March of 1862. He led troops at the Siege of Corinth and Perryville before sustaining a wound at Stones River, after which he recovered in time to serve at Chickamauga and thereafter to defend Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad until he mustered out in 1865. He was brevetted major general in 1866. (2) CDVs featuring Brigadier General John Milton Brannan in uniform, each signed "Jm. Brannan / Brig Genl / U. S. Vols" on verso. Having a military background including education at West Point and service in the Mexican-American War, Brannan was appointed a brigadier general in command of the Department of Key West when the Civil War began. His 1862 service in the Battle of Saint John's Bluff earned him the rank of brevet lieutenant colonel, and his 1863 service at Chickamauga earned him the rank of brevet colonel. He was officially promoted to major general in the Regular Army that same year, and served as chief of artillery for the Department of the Cumberland, in which capacity he oversaw the defense of Chattanooga and served at Missionary Ridge and several battles of the Atlanta Campaign. Brannan continued his military career after the war was over, only retiring in 1882 at the age of 63 with the rank of colonel. CDV featuring Major General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick in over-the-knee boots and a western style hat, inscribed "Kill Batrick" and credited to Anthony/Brady on verso. CDV featuring Lieutenant Samuel H. Meredith, identified and dated on verso and credited to Brady on mount. CDV featuring Lieutenant C. Stuart Webster, identified and credited to Brady on mount.
