Ero e sono aperta alle cose nuove, ai nuovi mezzi, tant'è vero che, come fanno poi in ogni epoca i giovani, non volevo usare mezzi sorpassati. Non ho mai comprato il cavalletto. Per non dipingere sul cavalletto ho dipinto per terra e poi ho usato un tavolo. Un giorno mi portarono in studio questo materiale, perché volevano riprodurre un mio lavoro. Mi incuriosì quel materiale. Pensai: voglio provare a usarlo perché così svelo i misteri che sono dietro l'arte. L'interesse per me era la trasparenza, si vedeva il telaio. Questo è stato l'inizio, l'ispirazione. Volevo rendere trasparente quello che era intorno a noi. Erano gli anni Sessanta. E allora trovai dei colori che potevano aderire, senza staccarsi, e poi la maniera per dipingere. Preparavo dei fogli di carta dove facevo il disegno. Un lavoro di pazienza. E poi il colore, fino al fluorescente che per me esprime la progressiva ricerca di una luce sempre maggiore. Ma più che i colori amo gli accostamenti e l'emanazione di luce che ne deriva. Ho usato il rosso con il verde, il rosa con il celeste. L'importante è che abbiano la stessa forza e che non siano solo complementari.
I was and am open to new things, to new means so much so that, as young people do in every age, I didn't want to use outdated means. I've never bought an easel. In order not to paint on the easel I painted on the ground and then I used a table. One day they brought this material to my studio because they wanted to reproduce one of my works. I was intrigued by that material. I thought: I want to try using it so to unlock the mysteries behind art. The interest for me was the transparency, you could see the stretcher. This was the beginning, the inspiration. I wanted to make transparent what was around us. It was the Sixties. And then I found colours that could adhere without detaching, and then the way to paint. I used to prepare sheets of paper where I sketched the drawing. A work of patience. And then the colour, up to the fluorescent which for me expresses the progressive search for ever greater light. But more than colours I love the combinations and the resulting emanation of light. I used red with green, pink with baby blue. The important thing is that they have the same strength and that they are not just complementary.
