Beschreibung:

The Journals of the House of Commons of The Kingdom of Ireland.
Dublin: Abraham Bradley, 1753-63. 10 vols. comprising of vols. 1-8 1753; vol. 9, second edition 1763; vol. 10, 1761. [And:] The Statutes of Large passed in the Parliaments held in Ireland . Dublin: George Grierson, 1786. Volumes 1-5 (of 13). Togther 15 vols., folio (340 x 210 mm.). Titles to the Statute with engraved vignette arms of The Prince of Wales; folding letterpress tables. The works unformly bound in red morocco covers with wide border of rules and floral motifs in a dentelle pattern. The patterns slightly ancient in the 5 vols. statutes. Cornerpiece tooling of sunburst rays enclosing a scene of crescents and stars with the royal cypher of George III at each inner corner, arms of George II as Prince of Wales centrally placed on each cover, spine in seven sections, raised bands, black morocco lettering pieces in two sections, the remaining filled with varying geormetrical designs. The Journals uniform in the 10 volumes, and the Statutes with a slightly variant tooling in the third and sixth sections and at lower band, gilt inner dentelles, marbled end papers. g.e, silk page marker in each volume. Condition : very light rubbing of extremeties, some covers bumped. The Prince of Wales arms excised from each cover on vols. 3-5 of the statutes, with a replacement maroon morocco panel inserted. Slight insect damage to a few spines of statutes. an important partial set of the rare series of journals and statutes for the parliament of ireland. bound for george III after 1786, with the additional arms of George IV as Prince of Wales, probably added in this period as Regent. This set was bound for George III and either gifted or passed over to the offices of the Prince of Wales. Sets or even partial sets of The Journals and Statutes are rare at auction presumably as relatively few were issued, and as most were bound in regular calf, the present set is particularly desirable. George III’s library was the founding cornerpiece for the establishment of the British Library given by George IV to the nation and housed in the newly built King’s Library at the British Museum in London. It is one of the most important and magnificent libraries formed in the last 3 centuries. Bindings with George III’s arms rarely appear at auction and those of George IV as Prince of Wales are almost unknown as books were never his interest. On accession to the crown Geroge IV became the first monarch to visit the Parliament of Ireland in 1822.
