Name clipped from margin of title in Vol. XII, very slight browning. Contemporary American half mottled calf over marbled paper boards, gilt-lettered red morocco spine labels, slight rubbing. Most titlepages signed ("P Wingate"). FROM REVOLUTION TO CONSTITUTION: A COMPLETE SET IN ORIGINAL BINDINGS, OWNED BY PAINE WINGATE (1739-1837), THE LAST SURVIVING DELEGATE TO THE CONTINENTAL CONGRESS. The Journals were issued by the government's printers Robert Aitken, John Patterson, John Dunlap and David Claypoole. This fine set incorporates the full text of the Declaration of Independence established by Congress on 18 January 1777, plus the names of the Signers, minutes of the debates at the 1787 Constitutional Convention and the proposed Constitution.
