AN APULIAN RED-FIGURED HYDRIA ATTRIBUTED TO THE WHITE SACCOS PAINTER, CIRCA 320-310 B.C. With an enthroned female between two standing attendants in added white within an Ionic naiskos, each wearing a himation over a peplos with two vertical red stripes, the female to the left pulling her white himation over her right shoulder, veiled over her head, the female to the right holding a cista in her right hand, the seated figure wearing a crown, a mirror in her left hand, her head turned to her right, two fans and two quartered balls above, two fillets hanging in the field, the stylobate with scrolling vine, the pediment with a frontal mask amidst scrolling, palmette acroteria above, flanked by undulating fillets, to the left, above, a seated female with a filled patera and a wreath, an alabastron behind her, below, a standing female with a mirror and a grape cluster, a phiale before her and below, to the right, above, a seated female with a filled patera and a mirror, below, a standing nude youth with a patera and a staff, a phiale before him, a blossom below; a band of meander and dotted cross-squares encircling below, laurel centered by a rosette on the neck, ovolo on the rim, lines around the handle-plates, large palmette complexes and tendrils below the handles, details in added white, yellow and red; the foot separately made, one side with the head of winged Nike in profile to the left wearing a sakkos, rosettes above, the other side with a palmette flanked by tendrils, wave above, a band of wave encircling below, details in added white 37¼ in. (94.6 cm.) high
