AN APULIAN RED-FIGURED LOUTROPHORUS ATTRIBUTED TO THE BALTIMORE PAINTER, CIRCA 330-320 B.C. The obverse with two females in added white within an Ionic naiskos, a seated female to the left, wearing a chiton and himation, holding an open box, a hydria beside her, and a standing female to the right, wearing a peplos, holding a handled cista, the naiskos surrounded by four offering-bearers, a seated female above left with a cista, a fillet and a tambourine, a standing female below left with a tambourine and a cista, a seated female above right with a patera and a wreath, and a standing nude youth with a fillet and a branch, with offerings below the naiskos, including two cistae, two phialai, a kalathos and a cylindrical cista with a mirror, a band of rosettes below; the reverse with a stele, meander on the plinth, a seated female to the left with an alabastron and a fan, and a seated female to the right with a phiale, a band of meander below; a band of rosettes encircling above, the shoulders of the obverse with a female head in three-quarter view amidst florals, the reverse with palmettes, a band of ovolo above; the neck bisected by a raised fillet, with rays and ovolo below, palmettes above, ovolo on the rim, rays on the underside, details in added white, red and yellow 38 in.
