Those more observant out there will have noticed the mileage recorded above: 302 miles. There is a good reason for this; Porsche themselves have restored every single nut and bolt on this car. The story begins in 2013 when Porsche GB set a challenge; they asked the UK main dealer network to go out and source a restoration project, spend a year (eight months in reality) restoring it, then present it at the Classic Car Show at the NEC, Birmingham in 2014. Porsche Brooklands found a decrepit 1988 911 3.2 litre Targa which they then pushed into their workshops. As with everything in this world, you get what you pay for and, with their reputation at stake, not to mention their own professional pride, they began the deconstruction process. Time and expense were pushed to the back as they then took those major components and separated them out into their constituent parts. In fact, every single item was separated, repaired, cleaned and polished. If not possible, correct Porsche parts were used in their place. It took an entire team of dedicated Porsche mechanics to create, what is arguably, the finest 911 Targa in the world. It has stood, pride of place, in the Brooklands showrooms since the show and received a relentless stream of hushed admiration. The original owner pack accompanies this superb example, complete with a new service history booklet for the new car from Porsche themselves, as well as a hard-back book detailing the restoration and a framed print showing this and all the other cars restored by Porsche that year. It was then sold in 2015 into a private collection whereupon it was stored in climatic controlled conditions; the only addition to this extraordinary example is the addition of a new Porsche retro-style digital radio and sat nav system. This represents the very best restoration by the finest technicians on one of the most iconic automotive designs ever penned. A brave claim, but don't take my word for it...
