Introduced as a four-cylinder roadster, a coupé with 2+2 seating was added in 1965. The MGB was a relatively modern design at the time of its introduction, utilising a monocoque structure instead of the traditional 'body-on-frame' construction used on both the MGA and MG T-types. The lightweight design reduced manufacturing costs while adding to overall vehicle strength. Wind-up windows were standard and a comfortable driver's compartment offered plenty of legroom. The MGB's performance was considered brisk at the time of its introduction with a 0-60mph time of just over 11 seconds aided by the relatively light weight of the car. Handling was one of the MGB's strong points. The three-bearing 1798cc B-Series engine produced 95bhp at 5400rpm and the engine was upgraded in October 1964 to a five-bearing crankshaft in an effort to improve reliability. The MGB was one of the first cars to feature controlled crumple zones designed to protect the driver and passenger in a 30mph impact. This MG B Roadster, fitted with overdrive, was purchased by the vendor in 2016 from its one and only, original owner who had restored the car in the late 1990’s using a complete new heritage body shell and changed the colour to red. When purchased, the car required recommissioning after being in long term storage, this was done at a cost of £6,000 including replacing the wiring loom, new brake discs, callipers and brake lines, a new stainless-steel exhaust, alternator and new Minator wheels fitted with new tyres. Finished in red with black leather interior, this B Roadster is supplied with a full set of weather equipment, a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in March 2018, a Heritage Certificate and a file of bills from the original restoration in 1999 to 2001 and from the recent recommissioning in 2016 to 2017. The MG B represents good value in today's market and enjoys excellent club support, specialist services and parts back up; a motor car just awaiting a new owner to enjoy it for years to come.
