The MGB is a sports car launched by MG Cars in May 1962 to replace the MGA and manufactured until 22 October 1980. The roadster was the first of the MGB range to be produced. The body was a pure two-seater but by making better use of space the MGB was able to offer more passenger and luggage accommodation than the earlier MGA while being three inches shorter overall. The suspension in standard cars was softer, giving a smoother ride, and the larger engine gave a slightly higher top speed. The four speed gearbox was an uprated version of the one used in the MGA with an optional overdrive transmission....of course, that was standard, but this is no standard car... Research conducted by the vendor uncovers that GGP 506C was one of two Works cars owned and raced by Jonathan Ryan and his brother who ran a small dealership in Ashford, Kent. It is a car well known by the MGB Car Club and has raced at the MG Works Golden Jubilee in 1979, the first regency run London to Brighton in May 1984 as well as appearances at Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Donnington. GGP 506C was recovered by the vendor from a salvage yard in 2009 and was in need of a complete rebuild. A host of photographs accompanying the car depict the mammoth restoration conducted by Brentwood Classic Workshops Ltd over a period of six months to its completion in January 2010. Now prepared to better than new standard and complete with FIA Papers, this wonderful motor car is ready to race at any pre-1966 Historic event worldwide. The work completed to the car includes a completely rebuilt engine to FIA Specification including a set of four forged pistons to the FIA maximum bore, beam con rods, 718 Kent cam, new main and big end bearings, new gaskets and oil seals and the balanced engine runs a lightened flywheel with a three paddle clutch plate. The head has been completely rebuilt to meet FIA requirements with big valves, double valve springs and has been ported whilst the carburettor is a Webber 45 that has been re-jetted for the car. The diff is a banjo type with a 4.5/1 ratio however the vendor includes a 3.9/1 unit with the car. The exhaust is a big three branch manifold fitting to a two inch exhaust pipe with a straight-through box that meets noise regulations. The gearbox is a three syncro style bought as a rebuilt unit and performs perfectly. The re-commissioned shock absorbers are the standard type and the car has received new brake discs and callipers throughout with new brake shoes at the rear. To finish, a Works roof and full roll cage were fitted, the car was lowered, fitted with Avon tyres, and fresh paint completes the car that is offered for sale today. This very competitive motor car is now reluctantly offered to a new home at a mere fraction of the build cost. Fully FIA Papered and complete with V5C registration document we look forward to seeing this quality race car deservedly taking the chequered flag this season
