1954 Jaguar XK120 Roadster Lot Number 295 Registration 312 JGW Chassis Number S661082 Engine Number W871783 Estimate £90,000 - £120,000 Result Sold - £101,920 Print details Send this to a friend 9 more images We are pleased to present this Jaguar XK120 Roadster finished in the colours of Old English White with contrasting dark red leather and sitting upon a set of chrome wire wheels. According to John Elmgreen, the Australian Jaguar XK historian, “this XK120 was sold new through a company named Lewis & Peat whose main operations, as far as the Jaguar marque was concerned, seem to have been in Nigeria. However, this Jaguar with chassis number, 661082, was delivered directly from the works to a Mr Taylor as the first owner, having been registered in Coventry. It was later registered with its current number 312 JGW.” As this Jaguar is noted upon the UK registration document as being first registered in March 1958, we may deduct that the car may have spent some time abroad during its early life before being repatriated in 1958 and assigned its current registration number. Later, the XK was owned by the well known, Chairman of the BARC (British Automobile Racing Club), Michael Groves, who owned the Jaguar for some years and would often be seen in it, spectating at BARC events. Under his stewardship, it underwent extensive restoration works in the mid-1990s and included a bare-metal strip and restoration. All the bills and photographs of this restoration are recorded within the large history file that accompanies the car. Later, 312 JGW was entered into The Hurlingham Club Concours d’Elegance under the ownership of Tarek Mahoud and, in 2012, it was acquired by John Goldsmith, nephew of Michael Groves. Today, the car currently resides within the same family. On inspection, this Jaguar XK120 Roadster presents very well, its coachwork is straight and clean whilst the undersides are also in very good order. Open the bonnet and note that the handsome 3.4 litre XK unit is very clean. Step into the rich red interior and look down the long bonnet and you may see why these motorcars were such a sensation on their introduction at the 1948 London Motor Show. Start the engine and you will notice how smooth the straight six engine runs whilst the Moss gearbox selects gears easily and smoothly. The Jaguar is offered with the afore mentioned history file, a factory service manual, various spare parts, complete weather equipment, including the tonneau covers and an indoor dust cover. All too often, freshly restored motorcars, although very bright and shiny, loose their soul in the process. However, we are delighted to offer this lovely Jaguar XK120 that has been loved and well maintained whilst having proved its reliability on many trips both within the UK and abroad. We think you will agree that not only is this attractive Jaguar in very good condition throughout, but also that it's heart and soul are fully intact. Interested parties should note that the original engine, along with the cylinder head, block and fly wheel, are included in the sale of this Jaguar. Please note the new owner will have to collect the engine directly from the vendor in Wiltshire.
