1950 Jaguar XK120 Roadster Lot Number204 RegistrationNKL 60 Chassis Number660355 Engine NumberW 2537-7 Odometer reading12,064 miles Estimate£90,000 - £105,000 ResultSold - £100,800 Print details Send this to a friend 2 more images Genuine UK supplied righthand drive example Matching numbers Great history folder This car can be viewed in person from 14th to 18th July 2020 at our the auction site, Windsorview Lakes, Datchet, SL3 9HY The Jaguar XK120 was manufactured between 1948 and 1954 and was their first sports car since the SS100 which ceased production in 1940. It was launched in roadster form at the 1948 London Motor Show as a show car for the new Jaguar XK engine. It caused a sensation thus persuading Jaguar founder and design boss William Lyons to put the car into production. The '120' in its name referred to its top speed which made the XK120 the world's fastest standard production car at the time of its launch. It was available in two open versions; first as the roadster, then as a drophead coupé from 1953 and also as a closed, or 'fixedhead' coupé from 1951. With alloy cylinder head and twin side-draft SU carburettors, the double overhead-camshaft 3.4 litre straight six XK engine was comparatively advanced for a mass-produced unit of the time. With a standard compression ratio of 8:1 it developed 160bhp. This same basic design of the XK engine, later modified into 3.8 litre and 4.2 litre versions, survived into the late 1980s. This matching numbers Jaguar has been restored a number of years ago and presents in delightful condition. The blue coachwork is virtually unmarked and the blue leather interior has a lovely patina. We are advised by the vendor this Jaguar drives with no known faults, unsurprising given the significant history folder. Manufactured on 27th November 1950 and delivered by J.E. Bird Automobiles in Lewisham, as confirmed by the Heritage Certificate, this genuine righthand drive example XK120 Roadster was featured in Jaguar Driver magazine in September 1990. Photographic evidence of the restoration is enclosed in the history folder, which also contains a V5C registration document and a host of previous MoT test certificates. Sitting proudly on wire wheels and still bearing the original registration number NKL 60, this Jaguar XK120 Roadster wants for nothing. The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day.
