WORDSWORTH, WILLIAM and SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE]. Lyrical Ballads, with a Few Other Poems. London: Printed for J. & A. Arch, 1798. Small 8vo, dark green morocco gilt, g.e., spine faded to brown, slight wear at top of front outer joint, some mild foxing. FIRST EDITION, second issue, with the London imprint, errata leaf and advertisement leaf at end. Rothschild 2604; Healey 4; Grolier English 66; Hayward 202 (first issue). A Landmark of English poetry; the majority of the poems are by Wordsworth, but among Coleridge's contributions is the earliest version of "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner." Joseph Cottle, the original Bristol publisher of Lyrical Ballads, had five hundred copies printed, but almost immediately disposed of his stock to the London publisher Arch, who had a new title-page prepared. Some thirteen copies of the Bristol first issue are known.
