FIRST EDITION, THE RARE FIRST ISSUE of volume 1 with integral title-page dated 1903, the usual Second State of volume 2 with cancel title-page dated 1906 (the 1905 first state title-page was never seen by the bibliographer in an English binding), each title-page with embossed stamp "Presentation Copy." Purdy, pp. 119-135 -- HARDY. The Romantic Adventures of a Milkmaid. New York: Harper's Franklin Square Library, June 29, 1883. 4to, blue half morocco, the original wrappers not preserved, the leaves browned and brittle with numerous tears.
