Thomas Tompion London A FINE SILVER PAIR CASED VERGE WATCH CIRCA 1698, NO. 2628 • Movement: gilded full plate, verge escapement, decoratively pierced and engraved balance cock, steel three arm balance and hairspring, silver regulator plate, fusee and chain, tulip pillars • signed and numbered Tho. Tompion, London, 2628 • Dial: silver champlevé, Roman numerals with half hour divisions between and to the ring beneath, outer Arabic minute ring, blued steel tulip and poker hands, outer gilded ring, cartouches to the dial centre, the upper having putti holding garlands of flowers, signed Tompion, London • Cases: plain silver inner case, the back with shuttered winding aperture, split bezels for glass retention, stirrup bow and pendant, inner case with maker's mark incuse IB with coronet above for John Banbury and numbered 2628 • plain silver outer case with square hinge and maker's mark AD possibly for Abraham Dearmer and scratch numbered 2628 diameter of outer case 54 mm, inner case 46 mm
