His paintings, with their exquisite colouration and fluid lines, are decidedly non-representational and yet hold subtle echoes of the natural world.
'... the surface [of Ambadas' paintings] looks very much like a coloured relief and it is woven with small strands and skeins of tonality… It is like watching the waves in a lake on a sunny afternoon: the gentle breeze plays on them and by gravitational pull sweeps away in the direction of the wind.'
