Right side of frame marked in one line: STARR ARMS Co NEW YORK and in one line on the left side: STARR'S PATENT JAN. 15, 1856. Left side of grip carved is carved with the name "SHALER" in block letters. Matching serial numbers on the interior of the frame in the hammer groove, on the hammer and on the cylinder. No other numbers are present. Only about 3,000 of these revolvers were produced circa 1858-1860, with most being acquired by the US government. This gun is void of any inspection marks and appears to be a civilian example. Condition: Good. Retains some traces of blued finish, mostly in protected areas, with scattered surface oxidation and freckled surface scale that has left pinpricking on the metal. All markings clear, mechanically functional, good bore with some dirt and oxidation. Grips lightly sanded with scattered bumps and dings.
