Albert Gallatin Author: McKenney, Thomas Place: Baltimore Publisher: Fielding Lucas Date: 1827 Description: viii, [9]-493, [1] pp. Illustrated with 29 plates of lithographs and engravings, including frontispiece. 9x5¾, original boards, rebacked with modern brown cloth, paper spine label, pages unopened and edges untrimmed, hinges reinforced. First Edition. McKenney's travels with the Chippewa Indians along the Great Lakes during the mid-1820's. "The author was for many years superintendent of Indian affairs at Washington, and was brought in constant association with the principal men of the nations and tribes which sent representatives to the seat of government. In this tour he formed a more intimate association with the great mass of the Indian population, and was able to present much valuable information regarding it" - Field 994; Sabin 43407; Howes M132. Lot Amendments Condition: Mild rubbing and edge wear to exterior; some staining and darkening to contents, rubberstamp of New Jersey Historical Society on the title page (slightly affecting frontispiece) and at the end on page 493; still a very good copy.
