SCOTLAND, Church history. Manuscript on paper, 'A perfect Invantar of all the pious donations given to the kirks & hospitals since the day of King James the first of Scotland to the reign of King James the Sixth. 16[7]0', [n.p., 17th century], comprising copies of extracts from charters and documents recording annual rents and gifts to churches, colleges and hospitals, 1450s to 1540s (including mention of John Kennedy of Blairquhan and his chapel at St Ninian's, 1508), followed by 17th-century legacies and 'mortifications' (including the will of the jeweller and philanthropist, George Heriot (1563-1624), who left funds to Edinburgh's ministers to found the hospital which bears his name, and Dame Margaret Ker, Lady Yester), proclamations made by James VI of Scotland from 1604 to 1605, and letters from Lord Salisbury, Fentoun and others including letters of condolence from Scotland's Council on the death of Henry, Prince of Wales, 1611-1613, and an extract from 'the History of Scotland by Way of Annals' in reverse orientation, 140 numbered pages, folio (313 x 197mm) (occasional light spotting, small hole affecting date on opening leaf). 19th-century half tan calf with marbled boards, the spine gilt with crested 'FFF' monogram and red morocco lettering piece (extremities worn).
