Large title vignette, headpiece, tailpiece, 121 woodcut scenes of tournaments, including one double-page (repeated) signed I.A. (Jost Amman and dated 1565, numerous woodcut coats-of-arms in the text, without final blank leaf. (Occasional light browning, light dampstain in a few leaves.) Contemporary pigskin over wooden boards, roll-tooled in blind, 2 brass fore-edge catches without clasps (minor repair on rear cover, tiny worming on front cover, small split at spine). Provenance : contemporary signatures deleted from title and front cover. A tall, complete copy of an important tournament book. Third edition, with new woodcuts and much additional material contained in two further parts, each with its own titlepage. The second part describes tournaments and games held at Vienna from 2 May to 24 June in an unspecified year in the 1560s, and part three describes the ceremonial entrance into Bintz of Charles V and his sons on 22 August 1549. A number of the woodcuts are attributed to Jost Amman and signed "I.A."; other woodcuts signed "H.B." have been assigned to Hans Bocksperger, but this is doubtful.
