GREATLY EXPANDED BIBLIOGRAPHY OF THE SOCIETY OF JESUS, WITH IMPORTANT BIO-BIBLIOGRAPHICAL VALUE RELATING TO THE JESUIT MISSIONS IN AMERICA. The work was originally published in 1608 under the title Illustrium scriptorum religionis Societatis Jesu Catalogus (octavo, 287 pages) and was republished in 1613 as Catalogus scriptoru religionis Societatis Jesu (octavo, 380 pages). Phillipe Alegambe expanded the present edition to 587 folio pages, adding numerous indexes and works printed up to 1643. Its American interest is extensive, since there are numerous entries for the Jesuits and their missions in North, South and Central America, all of which have been supplemented by Alegambe. RARE: only one copy of this 1643 edition appears in auction records since 1975; no copies of the 1608 or 1613 editions are recorded. The RLG Union catalogue locates no copies of this edition, 1 copy of the 1608 edition, 1 copy of the 1609 reissue, and 2 copies of the 1613 edition.
