RALFE, James (fl.1820-29). The Naval Chronology of Great Britain; or, an Historical Account of Naval and Maritime Events, from the Commencement of the War in 1803 to ... 1816 . London: Harrison for Whitmore and Fenn, 1820. 3 volumes. 8° (260 x 172mm). 3 aquatint frontispieces, one hand-coloured, 57 hand-coloured aquatint plates. (Light offsetting, occasional light browning.) Contemporary cloth-backed marbled boards, paper label on spines, uncut and partly unopened (rubbed and bumped, labels partly torn away); blue morocco-backed clamshell boxes (lightly rubbed along joints). Provenance : Sir Edward Chomeley Dering (bookplate) – purchased from William Woodin, 4 December 1941. FIRST EDITION, apparently published in parts. The headline captions are printed in blue, as called for by Abbey for copies coloured by an early hand. Includes plates relating to Trafalgar, and to the American War of 1812.
