Engraved additional title with uncoloured vignette and 18 hand-coloured aquatint plates by E. Duncan after H. Alken and T.J. Rawlins. (Plate 8 slightly frayed along foremargin.) Original green pictorial cloth gilt, gilt edges (recased, gilt block on cover rubbed, some light rubbing to extremities and a few discrete repairs); folding quarter red morocco case. Provenance : J. Smith and Son, Glasgow (ticket) -- acquired from Walter Hill, 1929. Second edition. ‘This second edition contains 6 extra plates, and 3 new plates replace 3 of the old plates of the first edition, making 9 new plates in all.’ Abbey Life , 385; Ray 48 (3rd edition); Schwerdt I, p. 38; Tooley 67.
