QUR'AN SIGNED HAFIZ MUHAMMAD SHAKIR SON OF HAFIZ 'ABD AL-HALIM, THATTA, NORTH INDIA, DATED AH 1190/1776-7 AD Arabic manuscript on paper, 305ff. plus eight fly-leaves, each folio with 14ll. of black naskh script, with gold roundel verse markers outlined in black, sura headings in red thuluth script between gold bands, text within black, yellow and red rules, marginal section markers in red thuluth script written diagonally, with gold and blue illuminated marginal medallions, catchwords, opening bifolio with gold and polychrome illuminated headpieces and margins, colophon signed, dated and giving the place of Tahtta , Qur'anic text followed by prayers, trimmed, in modern gilt and stamped black morocco binding Text panel 6 x 3 5/8in. (15.3 x 9.2cm.); folio 8¼ x 5 1/8in. (20.9 x 12.9cm.)
