A GROUP OF FIVE QUR'AN SECTIONS MAMLUK EGYPT, OTTOMAN PROVINCES, SAFAVID AND QAJAR IRAN, 15TH-19TH CENTURY Comprising a 15th century Mamluk Qur'an section (Qur'an XXVII, sura al-naml , v.60 to Qur'an XXIX, sura al-'ankabut , v.44), 20ff. as numbered, each with 7ll. of black muhaqqaq script, with gold and polychrome rosette verse markers, with marginal gold and polychrome illuminated medallions, sura headings in gold illuminated cartouches, in 15th century brown morocco binding with silhouette doublures, a 14th century Persian Qur'an section (Qur'an II, sura al-baqara , vv.189-254), 8ff., each with 11ll. of black muhaqqaq script, with gold rosette verse markers and gold and polychrome marginal illuminated medallions, in modern green binding, an Ottoman or possibly Safavid Qur'an section (Qur'an XXXVII, sura al-saffat , v.179 to Qur'an XLII, sura al-shura , v.28), 24ff. plus two fly-leaves, each folio with 11ll. of black naskh script, with gold and polychrome rosette verse markers, marginal markers in gold kufic script, sura headings in gold thuluth script within cartouches, text within gold frame, in modern binding, a 17th century Ottoman Qur'an section (Qur'an XXXIII, sura al-ahzab , v.35 to Qur'an XXXVI, sura ya sin , v.27), 18ff. plus two fly-leaves, each folio with 9ll. of black naskh script, with gold roundel verse markers, text within gold frame, sura headings in gold thuluth script in cartouches, in 17th century gilt and stamped brown morocco binding with flap, and a large Qajar 19th century Qur'an section (from al-fatiha to Qur'an VII, sura al-a'raf , v.146), each folio with 12ll. of black naskh script with Persian interlinear translation in red nasta'liq script, with gold divisions, text in gold and polychrome frame, most marginal illuminated medallions incomplete, with copious marginal Persian commentary, in modern binding Largest folio 14 x 9in.
