POTTER, Beatrix. Group of three printed illustrated Christmas cards, EACH INSCRIBED BY POTTER to Horn Book Magazine founder Bertha Mahony Miller. Together 3 cards, various 12mo and 8vo sizes, as detailed below. Greetings from [inscribed] "Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit" To "Mr. and Mrs. William Davis Miller 'A Merry Christmas' Dec 1932." Oblong folded card, cover with black-and-white design by Potter depicting a cast of her famous characters (Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, etc.) dancing around a Christmas tree. Slip laid in stating that profits on the sale of this card go to the Invalid Children's Aid Association. Greetings From "Beatrix Potter" To "Mr & Mrs Bertha Mahony Miller A Merry Christmas 1935." Folded card with a mounted color plate by Potter, showing Peter Rabbit as postman (also used on the front cover of Peter Rabbit's Almanac for 1929 ) on front cover, and with a reproduction of one of her line drawings (three rabbits reading a letter) with printed caption inside. Christmas Wishes Greetings for Christmas... From "W[illiam] & Beatrix Heelis It is pleasant to think of friends in sad time - we are well, but old & tired" [no date probably 1942]. Folded, with colored image (not by Potter) on front cover. Bertha Mahony Miller was founder of the Bookshop for Boys and Girls in Boston (1916) and the Horn Book Magazine (1924), and an important figure in the fight for the idea that children's books should be taken more seriously. She was also a close friend of Beatrix potter and champion of her books. A FINE ASSOCIATION GROUP OF POTTER CHRISTMAS CARDS. (3)
