PHAVORINUS, Varinus. Dictionarium , in Greek. Basel: R. Chimerinus, 1538. 2° (310 x 200mm). Preface by Joachim Camerarius in Latin. Double column. Woodcut historiated headpiece and initials. (Somewhat browned, wormholes or [at end] wormtrack affecting individual letters, dampstain, mostly marginal, more noticeable in about 5 quires.) Contemporary blindstamped German pigskin over bevelled wooden boards, panelled with saints' rolls, two fore-edge clasps, owner's initials 'I N A' and date '1550' tooled on front cover. Provenance : Johannes Nysaeus Augustanus (binding, 'et amicorum' inscription on title); Christopher, Baron von Bartenstein (engraved bookplate). Second edition of this Greek dictionary by the Bishop of Nocera, considerably augmented and with a comprehensive index. Adams P-985 (variant, dated 'MDXXXVIII' on title); Brunet IV, 598.
