Title: Our Sports; a New Monthly Magazine Featuring Negro Athletes Author: Robinson, Jackie, editor Place: [Canton, Ohio] Publisher: [Universal Publishing and Distributing Corporation] Date: 1953 Description: Vol. 1, Nos. 1 & 2 (of 5). May & June, 1953. Illustrated from photographs, etc. 28x21.5 cm. (11x8½"), pictorial wrappers. The first two issues of this short-lived periodical which billed itself as "The Great New Negro Sports Magazine." It lasted only five issues, and while advertising iteslf as being edited by Jackie Robinson, it is uncertain how much time the Dodger second baseman would have been able to devote to the magazine during the middle of the baseball season. The cover of the first issue featured Larry Doby, and that of the second, Monte Irvin. There are such articles as "Will There Ever be a Big-League Negro Manager" by Milton Gross; "The Lowdown on How I Cracked Jim Crow Golf" by Joe Louis; "My Feud with Leo: Jackie Tells What He Really Thinks of 'The Lip'"; and the provocative "Mat Glamor Girls: Bronze Wrestling Girls are Terrific." OCLC/WorldCat lists only five institutional libraries with runs of the magazine. Lot Amendments Condition: Some normal wear, internal darkening; about very good. Item number: 258106
