Chicago: Reilly & Lee Co., 1920. By Carl H[enry] Grabo. 243 pp. 8vo (240 x 175 mm). Publisher’s gilt green cloth, color pictorial label, pictorial endpapers in two colors, t.e.g. Condition : minor rubbing to spine extremities and corners; light stain to fore edge. Provenance : Fred M. Meyer Collection. first edition, early printing without the tissue guards . The author of this modern fairy tale, Carl Henry Grabo (1881-1955), was a poet, novelist, critic and scholar who taught at the University of Chicago and was later Visiting Professor of English at the University of New Mexico. He was known as a brilliant interpretor of Shelley’s poetry. Peter and the Princess contains some of Neill’s finest watercolors. [With:] Andersen’s Fairy Tales . New York: Cupples and Leon, Co., [1923]. 130 pp. 8vo (242 x 190 mm). 2 color plates by John R. Neill. Publisher’s gilt navy blue cloth, color pictorial label, blank endpapers. Condition : boards with occasional staining, rear board slightly warped, light spotting to rear endpapers; previous owner’s inscription on front free endpaper. Provenance : Fred M. Meyer Collection. The book contains many other unsigned black-and-white illustrations likely taken from German sources. [And:] Drawing with Pen and Ink And a Word Concerning the Brush . New York: Reinhold Publishing Corp., [1949]. By Arthur L. Guptill. Introduction by Franklin Booth Fifth printing. 431 pp. 4to (300 x 222 mm). Publisher’s black cloth, pictorial label, pictorial endpapers. Condition : spine extremities and corners slightly frayed, light scuff to front cover, some internal soiling. Provenance : Fred M. Meyer Collection. This survey of pen-and-ink techniques includes five examples of Neill’s finest work for Boy’s Life and other periodicals. Other artists represented include Franklin Booth Harry Clarke Joseph C. Coll, C. B. Falls, James Montgomery Flagg Charles Dana Gibson John Held Jr., Rockwell Kent Clayton Knight, Rose O’Neill, Willy Pogány and Katherine Sturges, many of whom Neill knew personally. [And:] John R.
