MITELLI, Giuseppe Maria (1634-1718). L'arti per via disegnate, intagliate, et offerte... da Gioseppe M a : Mittelli . [Bologna: 1660]. 2° (307 x 260mm). Etched title with engraved vignette of Bologna and 40 etched plates, all by Mitelli. Late 18th/early 19th century half vellum and marbled-paper boards, green morocco lettering-piece, marbled endpapers (vellum a little soiled). Provenance : Francis Ferrand Foljambe (stamp on title). FULL SET OF MITELLI'S CELEBRATED PLATES of Bolognese tradesmen and street vendors, in the third state. The designs for the series are sometimes attributed to Annibale Carracci (see Bartsch), although the series is, in fact, only very loosely based on Carracci's designs, published as Diverse figure (Rome: 1646).
