MAX ERNST AND RENÉ CREVEL (author) Mr. Knife and Mrs. Fork . Paris: The Black Sun Press, 1931. 8° (180 x 151mm). 19 black and white photograms with original printed tissue guards. Original black cloth, spine and front cover richly panelled and blocked in gilt, back cover repeating the design in blind (without slipcase, front joint repaired, back joint rubbed, gilt slightly dulled, gilt frame partly oxidized). Provenance : Paul Rand (1914-1996; small signature, faded, on front blank). FIRST EDITION, LIMITED TO 255 COPIES, THIS ONE OF 200 ON BRISTOL PAPER, apparently in a variant binding. The celebrated American graphic designer PAUL RAND'S COPY. Copies on Bristol paper were normally issued in a blue cloth binding with blue endpapers; this one is in a black cloth binding with black endpapers, which was used for the 50 signed copies on Holland Van Gelder Zonen.
