Folio, 305 x 197 mm., contemporary blind-panelled calf, rebacked preserving original backstrip; title slightly soiled, final leaf (Nn6) with small hole repaired on verso, some minor mostly marginal soiling or spotting. Woodcut printer's device on title-page and over 550 woodcuts in text, 29 OF WHICH ARE FINELY COLORED IN A CONTEMPORARY HAND. Adams D-677; NLM/Durling 1160; Pritzel 5986. First Latin edition, and the first illustrated edition of Mattioli, with the first appearance of this suite of woodcuts by Giorgio Liberali and Wolfgang Meyerpeck. These woodcuts, intermediate in size, were the models used by the same artists for the subsequent editions. The text includes Mattioli's translation of Dioscorides, accompanied with the commentaries, a revision and enlargement of the Italian Discorsi .
